Les over the years

Leslie John Jones was born in St Augustines Road, Portsmouth on 15th December 1931, this also being his mothers birthday.

His early education took place in Portsmouth but was interupted by the war when Les was evacuated to the New Forest.

Upon returning from the New Forest Les continued his education at The Southern Grammar School.  It was here that his interest and participation in sports began.

In December 1947 Les began work as an apprentice Engineer with St Vincent's Engeneering in Southsea.  He stayed on after Qualifying until January 1953 when he was called up for his National Service.

Outside of work Les was a keen footballer having played for Pompey Boys and continued to play until the late 50's.

Below is a photo of Les as the goalkeeper and my dad, Charlie Mair (on the front row 2nd from the right, just behind the shield).
